Site excursions in Lithuania and Germany took place in October and November to find the best locations where pilot installations can be most successful. Floating islands planted with emergent macrophytes for efficient nutrient removal will be installed in 2018 and 2019. Both lagoons suffer from internal eutrophication and innovative actions in addition to mitigation measures at land are urgently needed in order to achieve the good ecological status required by the Water Framework Directive.
